upgrade from ME to XP

My parents purchased a digital camera which did not support ME. I installed
XP. The files are there, but the programs have disappeared. It tries to open
them in wordpad & gives odd symbals. Please advise how I can get the programs
back. It also took away Outlook express.

It sounds like you did indeed, "install XP", instead of "upgrading ME"
with XP. This means that the programs are NOT installed in Windows XP,
but may remain in ME. Does it allow you to "choose" ME or XP at boot time?
