Upgrade fro Windows 98 to Windows 2000 or above?

Would anybody be able to comment on whether I would be able to upgrade my
operating system from Windows 98 to Windows 2000 or above.

I have a 4 year old Toshiba Satellite 4030cds laptop.

I have just recently purchased a IPOD which will not work with any operating
system lower than windows 98.

Does anybody have a solution or will I have to purchase a new computer?

Really depends on the hardware specs. Check with Toshiba to make sure they
have drivers for W2k/WXP....
 
Since you say the IPOD will work with Windows 98 and higher and the
computer is running Windows 98 what is the reason for wanting to
potentially make the laptop inoperable?
 
I presumed there was "SE" left off there - perhaps I'm mistaken.
