Upgrade 2nd o/s to XP 64bit eval RC2 ?

?

/..

Has this been asked to death? On my XP64-3400+ laptop, I re sized the
default partition to allow installation of RC1 and a 64bit Linux distro.
(Linux is still to come, now looks like it'll be Fedora core 3 -- if I
resolve the issue of upgrading to latest stable PHP and Mysql (rpm
available? compile, install and get them working with Apache? I've been
using them so long that I'm not in practice, and by now many details have
changed....)

Now that XP64 Rc2 is out, I'd like to remove the previously installed
earlier version of XP64. I could format that partition and install the
latest to it, but do I need worry about the system files installed on c: by
the previous installation? Should I try to replace, for instance, ntldr
ntdectect.com and boot.ini (and / or any other files in my working XP32bit
installation) or will any necessary changes be handled automatically by the
installation? Is it wise or possible to run the new installation over the
previous XP 64 installation on D: ?

It's a 5000 series HP laptop with the Broadcom WIFI 54 mini card; this
works well enough, but no 64 bit drivers were previously available from MS
or Broadcom (boo.) I'm pretty sure I read that this driver is now
included. That would be great if I get the connection working, then I
could give the preview a real preview. Anyone seen the Broadcom WIFI
working in the latest RC of XP64?

The install of the OS will take of that as long as you don't select "Leave
current system intact" during setup. Just nuke the partition andgo at it.

Yes it works in RC2. You can also use the broadcom driver files from RC2 in
conjunction with NDISWrapper to make wireless work in 64-bit Linux distros
(including FC3).

Thanks for the info. I'll try it when my cold goes down a bit -- difficult
to be thorough and detail oriented right now. It's good news, tho; just
from a user/intuitive standpoint, the box rocked a lot more in the 64bit
system than in the 32bit. Booting, shutdown and many operations seem
noticeably faster.

I see drivers available for most of the equipment I currently use, another
plus. Now to get around to porting a few apps....

I'm interested in the approach you mention for reusing the driver files in
a 64-bit Linux distro; this has also been a sticking point! Do you have
any pointers to further info? Thanks again,
