Upgrade 2000 to XP

Here is my situation. I have a computer that has 2 20G hard drives. One
boots 2000 and the other 98 2nd Edition. 2000 is my preferred system, 98 as
a backup. 2000 no longer boots because of a corrupt system file. I want to
upgrade the 2000 system to XP Pro. My questions are:

1. Can I boot into 98, and run the XP setup and tell it to upgrade the 2000
system?

2. Will my documents and settings directories be maintained once XP is
installed?

3. Is there some other way I can upgrade the 2000 system without being able
to boot it?

Thanks for the assistance.

Hi Mark,

I recommend that you get Windows 2000 up and running first. Attempting to
upgrade a broken installation is not a good idea.

Thanks for the response. The problem is that I got this drive from a
computer that a former employer was throwing out and I don't have the
Windows 2000 CDs to repair it with. If I use the XP Boot disks and try to
upgrade that way, do you think it will work? or do you know of any other way
to repair the 2000 installation?

Thanks again,
Mark
