Upgrade 2000 to XP

I tried to upgrade from 98 to 2000 and it went bad, real
bad. W2000 install has caused many of my applications to
not execute, I have lost the write capability to DC-RW, my
Norton utilities are not working just to name a few. I am
now trying to upgrade to XP on top of 2000, but the
upgrade says it is imcompatible. I have tried to go back
to an old 98 or 98SE startup disk to reload back to 98 and
when this process is copyuing the files from the CD my
machine freezes. Any advise out there besides drop
kicking my machine.

If XP home then this isn't an upgrade path. Upgrades in general don't work
well at all. Always best do a clean install of whatever OS you're trying to
get to.
