Is there a way to create a CD which has all of the latest Windows XP updates,
i.e., security patches, etc., as well as SP2? The restore CD we have is over
a year old and very outdated forcing us to use Automatic Updates or Windows
Update, which is a slow process.

If your Windows XP is on a "System Recovery" disk provided by the
computer manufacturer then there is no way to update that.

If, on the other hand, you have an installation CD then you can create
a new CD by slipstreaming.

With a "System Recovery" disk your best option would be to wait until
the next time you do an install. When you have SP2 and all of the
post SP2 updates in place use a disk imaging program such as Acronis
to create an image of the new install and save that for future use.

Good luck

OK we have the restore CD's from the manufacturer (HP and Dell in our case)
and part of the restore process, i.e., the 2nd disc, is an "Operating System
CD" with XP Pro SP1a on it. Would slipstreaming that work?

How does imaging work w/ the EULA? Will XP recognize that it's a different
HD and require calling to activate it?

I suppose the only difference I'd see is that there are slightly different
utilities between Dell and HP...

Look at the contents of the CD.

If it contains a \i386 folder then it is most likely an installation
CD.

If you use nLite (my personal choice) for creating the slipstreamed CD
it will tell you right away if you have a proper installation CD or
not. http://www.nliteos.com

Good luck
