Updating .NETFramework

Hi,

I have Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (build 2600), 950 megahertz
AMD Duron, 768 Megabytes Installed Memory, .NETFramework 1.1.

I read about the new features of 2.0 and compatibility considerations but,
again, since I'm a newbie, it went over my head.

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/t357fb32(VS.80).aspx

Some new programs require .NETFramework 2.0. If I updated .NETFramework to
2.0, would I have to change anything else in my pc, such BIOS, drivers, etc,
or will updating to 2.0 be simply an update, such as when MediaPlayer updates?

Interesting Questions...

Further, what does .Net Framework 2.0 actually do for me if I don't develop
software?

At the moment, it is doubtful if .NET Framework does anything for you if you
don't use any of the Visual Studio.net development programs, but this will
probably not last.

It didn't take long for some programs written after the introduction of .NET
framework 1.1 to require this to run properly - the ATI graphics driver User
Interface, for example. Now many programs need this. It is likely that the
same situation will arise with .NET framework 2.

Incidentally, Vista, the next Windows Operating System will only run .NET
Framework 2 and not bother with the previous 2.

It's up to you whether you install it now or later; but you will need it at
some time, so you may as well install it now at your leisure to avoid the
trouble of having to install it on demand some time in the future when a
program you want (or need) to install informs you that it needs .NET 2 to
run.

Hope this helps.

It certainly DOES help.

A very fine and complete answer.

Thank you kindly.

I have installed 2.0.

But I notice it did not replace previous versions.

They are needed for some programs that won't work with 2.0?

..net framework 2.0 is NOT suppose to replace previous versions of the .net
Framework.

Thank you Jerry for your reply. My pc doesn't nor has it ever had 1.0, but
it was very helpful to know that I need to maintain 1.1.

BadHead, As I said, there are some programs that I want that require 2.0.
It was the reason for me posting this question but Hines jumped in on my post
so that he muddied the water for me (and maybe you). Thanks for your reply.
