Updating links display

Does anyone have any ideas on how to show what percentage of links have
been updated in a spreadsheet - I need something to keep the users
amused as 7000 links update over a very slow network?

I don't know about tracking progress, but if you can get the new file opened
before updating the links to point to that file, I think you'll find the
update is *much* quicker!
