Updating Linked Tables

I have several Excel spreadsheets as linked tables in Access, and I can't
update the data in these tables. I don't have any relationships among the
tables, so I know it's not a problem with referential integrity. I recently
changed the paths to the tables using Linked Table Manager, and the problem
seems to have arisen after that, but none of the paths/directories are
protected, so I'm stumped.

Are you using ACCESS 2003? Did you just update it to SP2? Unfortunately,
updating linked EXCEL files no longer is allowed in ACCESS 2003 SP2.

optional components in Visual Basic 6 installer i thought

OK, Ken, thanks. I just read the article and I guess I must have installed
SP2 (probably automatic update). I guess I'm SOL, since the database has
several features which query the Linked spreadsheets so they could (used to)
be updated. I suppose I could try reinstalling Office 2002, sans Service Pak
2.

I'm using Office XP SP3 and can still update linked EXCEL files. Not sure
yet which update to Office XP turns this feature off, but I'm going to be
very wary of what I install for the time being....

I did a little more sleuthing, and found that it's update KB904018, dated Oct
18, 2005. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/904018

It must have installed via automatic updates to my system, as I sure didn't
want this, um 'feature'. Be afraid...be very afraid.

Do we really think that someone told them to "REMOVE IT"? I don't think so.
