updating from Windows ME to XP

I have tried to update from Windows ME to Windows XP but receive the
following error message part way through the installation:

Stop: C0000221 Bad image checksum. The image rpcrt4.dll is possibly
corrupt. The header checksum does not match the computer checksum.

Any help you can give me to get XP loaded would be appreciated.
