Updating Excel Links

Is there a way to automatically update a linked file when
it is already open and somebody makes a change to their
workbook??? I tried the calculate (F9) button but nothing
happens.

Before the link can be updated on your machine the other user must save
the workbook as you are reading the hardisk not the other persons
computer
