Updating ESCD, Building DMI pool...

OK, somewhat elderly but still servicable Abit BX3R2 motherboard with a Celeron
running at 950 MHz. Been fine. Works great. Boots spiffy..........

About a week ago after I changed some equipment in the box it started booting
REALLY SLOW... The slowdown is at the point where it says

Updating ESCD

and then when

Building DMI pool...

after several minutes of this it finally boots the rest of the way and works
fine..........

I've checked the BIOS and I don't see anything interesting.

I removed the battery and cleared the CMOS...

Didn't make any difference... What do I do so this thing stops this crap?

Usually a hardware IRQ conflict.Try moving the PCI cards around in the
mother board slots. You should be able to find a combo the system
likes.

reset configuration data' in the bios, after the first boot....... did
you pull the power cord when you pulled the battery? you should have
gotten a checksum error at the first boot after the pulled battery.

1st,
..
I gotta respectfully depart from/with my preceding posters, a little ...
and ...
..
2nd,
ask you to resolve a dilema for me .

.....
1st-

changing 'equipments' will(should) result in a re_built ESCD ,
and possibly( if so provided ), the DMI tables.

Normal, and to be expected.

.....
2nd-

To quote ...
(1) and works fine..........
.. followed by
(2) What do I do so this thing stops this crap?

(1) ????
Does the PC =repeatedly= indicate its re_building(up_dating) the ESCD
???

(2) ???.
Can you further describe what "crap" you'd like to "stop" ???

...........
The 'ESCD' serves as an adjunct to the CMOS parm table( BIOS MENU driven
).
Usually built once,
possibly updated thereafter, if & upon equip change.
Typically stored in the "back" of the flash eeprom,
"behind" the bios binary(so flashed),
but
I have heard of a few(phew) PCs that store same in a hidden ptn.

FI, ... your 4 PCI 'ints' are stored there ...
.. and much more.

Payware is available to 'dump' it in readable form.

...........

Repeated ESCD "update" advisories I'd be concerned ,
*if* for no, apparent reason,
..
"?else?" ...
..
I'd not worry an iota.

I'd not clear CMOS either ... no need,
=unless=,
for reasons =else= than ESCD ... you need such.

If you use Rack & Tray mounted HDs ...
and leave "one/some" =out= , at boot ...
you should =expect= to see " ... updating ESCD " .
My Abit KG7-R does this. :)

A well coded 'bios' will do a probe/enumeration ,
and quite properly build/upd an ESCD ...
followed by an OS 'recognition' of same ... & redo the 'Reg'(hopefully).
The 'Reg' should follow the ESCD ... 'diffs' can cause RED <?>.

Upon the 1st boot, of a new PC, you =should= see " ... updating ESCD "
....
.... also ,
if you flash a new, updated bios 'bin' into a previously booted PC.
In each case 'above',
theres no ECSD 'behind' the bios bin. :) Needs to be built.

...........
Google Groups for "further" re:ESCD.

Qed.
