Updating Defender

Hi,

I have just installed Windows Defender on my PC and I tried to
update the definition files but I get the following message:

Windows Defender was unable to complete the update: 0x80072efd.

Please can someone help with resolving this.

Check IE connection proxy settings. Set to "always detect"--or, if already
that way, try unsetting. I'm still grasping at straws here--not sure what
works-but those two choices each have fixed different machines for me.

I followed your suggestion now I get a different error number... 0x80072ee2.

Sorry that didn't help. I only a few real answers for the new messages.
I'd recommend searching these groups on the error number, and looking for
posts from the Microsoft folks that are posting. I'm trying to build my
knowledge of the specific errors and the posted fixes from their messages
and KB articles that are being created, but I haven't gotten very far yet.
