I have several folders of contacts, and have the same hierarchy on two
computers, I go back and forth between office and home. When I open
"outlook84.pst", a .pst file that I brought in on my flash drive, how do I
know (or confirm) that's the contact list I'm looking at in outlook, and not
the one called "outlook.pst".

I have been doing this for years (all of my outlook information is in a file
entitled EHPORTER.PST, which I shuttle around on a USB key between 4
computers). The easiest way to force a computer to use EHPORTER.PST is to
locate the default outlook.pst file and rename it to something like
outlook.pst.old.

When Outlook starts, it will generate a "not found" error message and ask
you to locate or select the appropriate PST file. Point it to the one you
want, and it will thereafter use it as the default.

Give the second PST a different display name so that it doesn't show up as
"Personal Folders". Right-click on the PST's root, choose Properties, and
click Advanced. Put what you'd like in the "Name" field.
