I have 6.0.x. Each time I need the reader, I get a msg about do I want to
update. The update looks like it's about 30M. That's way more than I'm going
to do on my 30K baud modem. I can use a San Disk at the library. I
downloaded what I believe was a suitable update program,
AdbRdrUpd708_all_incr.exe, but when I attempt to use it, it warns me that I
may not have some suitable components installed. What to do? Where do I get
a proper update?

I just checked the Reader Help and see that it thinks I did a partial
update. It's possible I'd start something via the net, but, when I saw the
size stopped. It gives me the option to remove the update. Should I?

Go back to the library with your portable memory device and download the
full install (I know it's more than 3x the size of the update, but you
won't have any "missing parts" complaints). Uninstall your old version
of Acrobat Reader from Control Panel > Add/Remove Software before
installing the new version.

Or, IIRC, there should be someplace in the nag screen to turn off the
reminders about upgrading. And turn off the "automatically check for
updates" in the Edit > Preferences dialog.

I have no trouble downloading very large files by going to the library, but
I've never seen the full sized version.

nag? Don't know what that's about.

Ctrl Panel->System->Update tab?

Messages asking you to upgrade, or buy a complete version of something,
or similar "reminders," are commonly know as "nags."

Download Adobe Reader version 7.0.8:
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
You might want to UNcheck the options to include the Adobe Yahoo!
Toolbar and the Adobe Photoshop® Album Starter Edition as part of the
download (unless, of course, you want those extras).
