Just installed a new XP Home ed. SP2 OEM on my Aunties machine and now it
wants to collect about 27mb's more in "Windows Updates." (she's on
dial-up - so not really practical)

Is there any way for me to download them and take them to her machine on
cd-r ?

i.e. if I collect the:-
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...be-3b8e-4f30-8245-9e368d3cdb5a&DisplayLang=en
266mb download, can I use that, since her machine is already up to SP2 -
will it supply to her machine Windows Updates since the manufacture of the
SP2, or is this "266mb SP2" and "old" one, like the XP Home SP2 OEM I seem
to have installed ?

regards, Richard

Try getting the numbers of the downloads it wants to install, then you can
search microsoft for them,or download a small amount at a time.

The masters of bloatware still does not seem to understand
that not everyone has access to broadband and that there aer
sizeable hunks of the world still under dial-up at 56K or
slower.

If I understand what you just wrote, the 266 MB download is
Service Pack 2 to Windows XP. The updates from Kurttrail's site
are the updates that were released after SP2.

This person wants to save his/her downloads to a CD-r and then load
them on to another PC! I also would love to see the
answer...slip-streaming is to complicated for this old brain!

ThanX!

The link posted by Ghostrider (reproduced below)
http://www.microscum.com/postsp2/
will get you a good start on these.

Unfortunately Kurt has not updated the page since last November so
there are a number of additional updates which need to be added to
that list and unfortunately I don't have a list of them readily
available.

Kurt are you there? Your web page needs some attention.

If one does not want to make a slip-streamed version of
Windows XP, then the alternative is to download the update
files and install them individually. And these files can be
burned directly to CD-R or extracted and then burned to CD-R.
And should one not wish to download just the important Windows
updates but just the important ones, then Kurttrail's website
is a good place for them. One might not want the entire 27 MB
of updates, such as WGA/WGN that was foisted as a "critical"
update when it certainly is not.
