Updates & Hotfixes use up too much hard drive space

I had the automatic update program on my computer for
Windows XP. But every update or hotfix require over 20 MB
of hard drive to install. There have been 28 of these
updates or hotfixes, so they have used up 560 MB. Do I
continue installing these updates and eat up my hard drive
or is there a better way to upgrading Windows XP?

Patches are applied on top of existing files and affect
the disk space usage very little.

Hi,

If you are happy with the update, delete the backup file it created. Set
folder options/view tab to see hidden and system folders. Then locate the
$NtUninstallQxxxxxx$ folders (they should appear in blue, since they are
compressed) under C:\Windows and delete them. This should free up some
space. Afterwards, go to the Control Panel/Add & Remove, select each hotfix
for uninstall. There will be an error message followed by an option to
remove the listing.
