Updates cause probs?

MS sent me updates today. After installing them, on restarting, I get a dialog
reporting that Windows has recovered from a serious error, and offers to send a
report to MS. I send the report, and get a webpage which implies that a driver
(unidentified) is causing the problem. Looking at the MS page for resolving the
problem, it seems like my best option is to go back to the last known good
configuration. After all this the box seems to run OK. Event viewer does report 4
System errors, but I don't know how to interpret the error codes. Googling them
doesn't return any matches. I did save off the xml and the dmp files which were
generated.

Is there a way I can (1.) determine what the updates were, (2.)which, if any caused
my problem, and (3.)apply a fix. Or should I just do the last good config and forget it?

I do believe the updates are generally a good idea, and I'd like to not lose any
protection or functionality.
TIA Mike

The problem disappeared on it's own. That worries me even more.
