auto updater cant update due to it cant find a
connection. every other application and internet explorer
works fine

It may be worth checking whether IE is set to work
offline, however.

Make sure internet explorer LAN settings automatically
detect settings is checked... I had the same problem and
this is what fixed it..

Can you say whether you are in an environment where there is a proxy server?
