This is configured by going to Control Panel and opening the System icon.
In there you'll see a tab labeled 'Automatic Updates'. On that tab,
Automatic Updates can be both enabled and configured the way you like.

Evelyn, a word to the wise! You don't want to do that. Do
the Critical updates manually. The bulk of the rest of the
updates are not needed and can have very annoying
conflicts with XP, unfortunately. The more useless updates
you accumulate the worse it gets.
Read the descripton of each noncritical update. How
important do they sound - TO YOUR NEEDS. They are like
magazines. Even if they were free, would you want them
all? or more than a very select few? Unneeded updates are
just as useful as 'Muscle and Madness' or 'Bacteria
Illustrated.'
Thank you Taddeo - I will take your advice - Evelyn
