'Update Table of Contents' Dialog Not Appearing

I have a fairly complex TOC document that has three separate TOCs. It has one
for document sections and two others, one for tables and one for figures. I
have each heading individually formatted using the TOC dialog box. My problem
is that the Update Table of Contents dialog box does not appear when I try to
update. I would like to update only the page numbers. It may be notable that
the second headings in the document are bold and I turn this off in the TOC.
Can anyone tell me how to get my dialog box back? Thanks!

not quite sure, but I got the impression that, whenever you don't get
the dialog box, this means that there is a new Heading in it so Word
decides you will want to reflect that in the TOC.

With "second headings" you mean entries in style "Heading 2," right?
Bold formatting in your headings should not be reflected in your TOC,
unless it's been manually added to the heading entries (instead of added
to the respective paragraph style).
