update shuts me down

Three time now I have gotten almost to the end of a two
hour update, server pack 3, and IE6, and again, only for
my computer to shut down without closeing down windows.
Its almost as if powers disconnected, but its not. DIs
there a reason this happens? Im on a Dell 7000 laptop.

My wife is also having the same problem on her computer, ever since she installed the last update her PC just randomly reboots itself for no apparent reason!
