Update Rollup 1- #826939

I want to install this update rollup but am concerned how it may
negatively affect my system.

For those of you who have installed this:
1) Any negative effects or problems since installing??
2) has your system been slowed down after the install??

1) you should already have most of the patch's contained in the rollup.
2) no problems here.

A nice side effect of installing the rollup is it significantly shortens the
list of hotfixes in add/remove programs.

I recently updated the critical and recommended patches
using my XP updater. One of the files was the rollup
patch. There were 7 other recommended patches which I
downloaded. Immediately after downloading the patches, I
started getting notices that would shut down my system.
The message would say: NT/ Authority System is shutting
down your computer. Remote procedure Call (RPC) service
terminated unexpectedly. Please close all windows and
save work. The computer will shut down in 60 seconds.
This notice comes unexpectedly and at irregular
intervals. Has anyone else had this problem and does
anyone have an idea of how to correct it? Any assistance
will be appreciated.

This has nothing to do with windows updates. You have been infected by the
w32.blaster.worm either because you don't have a firewall enabled or your
virus definitions are out of date or both. Go to www.sarc.com for the
removal tool, enable xp's firewall, get your virus definitions updated and
run a complete system virus scan.

Somewhere along the way you got infected with the Blaster virus. Do a
Google lookup on how to get rid of it.

Rest assured, if it is Blaster, you DID NOT get it from MS.

The only one I have heard of was a continuous reboot failure, associated
with the 811493 patch that is included. and found to be a result of the
upgraded build of ntoskrnl.exe d. Just in case, I suggest copying your
present version of ntoskrnl.exe from windows\system32 into say
windows\repair - then if you do get this problem it is easy to put back
after booting the CD to Recovery mode
