Update Problem with Excel File in Intranet

We have an Excel file called "Summary.xls" in a shared
folder in the corporate network. This file has links to
several other Excel files located in sub-directories in
the same folder. As personnel update these files,
the "Summary.xls" subsequently get updated.

A link has been created on in the Intranet
to "Summary.xls" for viewing.

The problem is the following.

When the personnel who have Win 2000 and Office 97 attempt
to access "Summary.xls", it does not show updated
information. It seems to show a previous version
of "Summary.xls".

Even after deleting the cache in one's desktop Internet
Explorer, the problem is there.

When personnel who have Win XP and Office 2003
access "Summar.xls", they do se the updated version. No
problem here.

Someone suggested it might be a cache issue in the
Intranet server (which I believe runs XP) for the Win
2000/Office 97 combination. Local IS is flummoxed. I
need to convince them to do something with information
from here.

Thanks in advance.

This is a complete guess.

If the win2k user rightclicks and saves the file to a different folder, do they
get the old or the current version?

And my other question is: are you sure you cleaned up the correct location?

I use win98 and I have a
c:\windows\temporary internet files\content.ie5
folder that contains lots of cached stuff.
