Update problem 80070002

O

Oldster

I have a laptop running Vista Home Basic.

Trying to use the "Get Updates for more Products" facility in Vista
Updates...I get a result code 80070002 along with a message :-

"The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are
trying to view."

Now, I'm not certain that I HAVE any "more products", but is there any
reason why the process is failing?

Start Orb/Menu>Help and Support>
Copy and paste 80070002 into the search bar. Hit enter.

You'll see the result "1. Windows Update error 80070002"
Click it. You will have your answer.

I've tried that, and it didn't have any effect as far as I could see.

Did you follow the directions closely?

If so, try this;
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=910336

Or, try this;

To clear the file system transaction log:

Click the Start button. In the Search box, type Command Prompt, and then, in the list of
results, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as Administrator.

In the command prompt window, copy/paste> fsutil resource setautoreset true C:\ (This
assumes that C: is the drive in which Windows Vista is installed. If Windows is installed on
another drive, change the drive letter accordingly.)

Restart your computer.

Thank you for your trouble, but I'm afraid that the problem is still not
cured. I suspect I haven't made myself clear in what I was trying to do, and
that these solutions are in fact for problems with applying particular
updates.
What I was attempting to do was to change the way that Update was working so
that it would check on other Windows products like Office as well as the
Vista set of updates. Now, I don't at the moment have any other Windows
products on this machine, so perhaps what I was trying to do is nonsense,
but I was attempting to set things up for the future! I do in fact get a
little way into the changes (see the original message), but on I think the
second or third screen the error code occurs.

Okay, this makes more sense.

If you've followed the instructions at the link below, you should
receive notifications about other Microsoft product updates;
http://www.microsoft.com/protect/computer/updates/mu.mspx

Of course, you won't receive the other updates unless
you have something to update.

Now we're getting to th Knub! I clck "Get Update for...", Screen appears
"Try More....", Click "Start now...", Screen appears "Review License..." ,
click "Continue..", Then get error message! As far as I know nothing is
wrong here! Is it complaining about my license?

Perhaps I ought to start a new thread!

Maybe, you should try the newsgroup microsoft.public.windowsupdate

Wish I could be of more assistance, sorry.

The Microsoft Update Product Team also
has a blog, you might dig around there.

Take care,
