Iconoid v3.8.1

Overview :

Iconoid is a Windows desktop icon manager. Iconoid hides and shows the
icons when you need them. Iconoid insures that when you restore icon
positions, the saved positions do not overlay other icons. Iconoid goes
to great lengths to insure that all Icons are visible when you restore
Icon positions. Iconoid can be completely hidden or live in the system
tray. Iconoid is customizable. For example: you can decide what options
appear in the tray popup so that you don't have to see a cluttered list
of items you don't use. Iconoid can determine the optimal text background
color whenever the wallpaper changes, automatically. Iconoid comes with
complete source. Features: * Make icon backgrounds transparent * Select
any color for icon backgrounds * Save and Restore Icon positions for each
(or every) screen resolution * Select any color for icon text *
Automatically or manually select the best color for the text background *
Dynamically hide icons when you don't need them and show them when you do
* Quickly minimize all windows so that you can see your desktop
wallpaper.

What's New:

# Improved help system
# Simple registry based Import/Export of all settings including icon
positions. Includes checks to avoid importing registry files not created
by Iconoid.
# About panel shows mini screen preview when you click the Iconoid icon

# Fixed some timing issues to reduce screen flashing

Just d/l Iconid 3.8.1 and installed everything is working OK.
Had minor trouble with 3.7.2. My fault.
I have been using Iconid for many years.
Replaced Transparent42

Works perfectly fine here on my W98 machine -
not a single problem in two years or so.

I have been using it for over a year with no problems on Win2k.

Thanks to all who responded. I'm currently using a no-longer-freeware PC
Magazine utility. Iconoid was mentioned as a worthy replacement for that
program.

"Wired for management"?
"Work force management"?
"World Federalist Movement"?
"Welsh Football Magazine"?

Using 3.4.0. Works fine for what I want. I'll try the latest to see what
new things I might fine useful.

I have been using it for over a year with no problems on Win2k.

I'm impressed, it seems to be a keeper to me. I can now play Civ3
without the hidden taskbar coming into view when I need to move in
that direction.

I found that Iconid 3.7 was rapidly cycling when it checked the
desktop color on account of "Auto Resample" being checked (or was it
"Automatic Text Color"?). Best to uncheck both if you find IconID
uses more power than you would expect.

I using 3.8. It does do a rapid cycle when starting but only for a few
seconds. After that it sits quietly until you ask it to do something
like hide the icons or redisplay them. The only complaint I have is
that it does not hide automatically when started. I have written to
the Author to ask if he could arrange this.

I've used version 3.3.0 for over a year on Win98SE. No problems at
all. But I will admit that I only use it to restore icon positions
when I've been in safe mode to defrag or scan for malware.

I apologise to the author. Automatic hiding is there, I just didn't
look hard enough. I'll claim old age as my excuse.

After reading this thread I realised that v3.8.1 was avialable so I
installed it. It hasn't worked properly for me since the upgrade
possible on account of some of my old settings being lost and some
new ones being available. I don't have time to fiddle with iconid as
muc hhas it seems to need, so I have removed it. :-(

I don't know if I have lost my way or if Iconid has lost ots way but
we are no longer enjoy one another's company!
