Update Excel cell in formula not refreshing answer cell

When updating cells in Excel the sum cell does not update.

Eg. in cell C1 I will have (=A1+B1)

Now if I update a value in cell A1 nothing happens to cell C1, why?

I've been using Excel for years and am confused about this.

Please advise, any assistance would be appreciated.
