Update + directx 9.0b = video problems with games

I fully updated win2k pro and tried to play some games
such as starcraft, total annihilation, and starwars
galactic battlegrounds. After the updating of everything
the games mentioned all play in a little box in the center
of the screen with a complete black boardering background.
I have a laptop with screen area of 1024 by 768.
Everything used to work before the updates... Ideas?

Have you installed the lastest VGA drivers for your laptop grapics chip?
