It still buggers the XP Pro registry, so nothing useful is new.

Run Avant (any 10.2 build)
Try to Run Windows Update - program fails to run
Run IE - allow it to become default browser
Run Windows Update - runs correctly
Run Avant (any 10.2 build)
Try to Run Windows Update - program fails yet again

It contains additional features to IE: tab browsing, built-in RSS
feeds etc and runs faster according to the author. I've been using
it for 12 months.

Do you have a link to 10.1.40 anywhere?
I've currently gone back to my latest which is 10.1.35.

PS 10.2 build 51 worked fine for me with Windows Update on XP and 98SE

Thanks for that, I've d/l 10.1.40 now and I'll keep it in reserve.

At the moment I'm using the latest 10.2.51 and the problem I had
with other recent versions (two instances of Avant.exe started after
a while) hasn't appeared so far. However I never go near Windows
Update so I can't tell if there's a problem there too.
 
I use a bookmarked URL to access the Windows Update site not the Windows Update Manager. Maybe that's
why it works for me? This is the url <http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/>. Avant is my default browser.

Windows Update is a program (wupdmgr.exe) and your saying it "worked fine"
for you was pretty misleading if you had never even tried to use it.

Windows Update is a service offered by Microsoft. It can be accessed in many ways. One is via the Windows
Update Manager (the program wupdmrg.exe) another is in IE via Tools>Windows Update. Or you can bookmark
the site (as I have done) and visit it that way. So the real issue is with the Windows Update Manager program
and Avant.

I stand by my statement that I have had no problems with Windows Update (the service) and Avant.
