At the moment I have got Windows XP media edition and I am thinking
of upgrading with vista premium upgrade and my question is will the
software that runs on XP such as Office 2000 run on Vista.
First - my suggestion is not to go to Vista without a good solid reason AND
it coming on the computer you buy.
You having Office 2000 is even more reason not to go - in my mind. If you
are that far behind on some software - who knows what else is just going to
fail miserably (or perform like a sloth after dying) if you performed the
upgrade.
Have you ran the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor?

Checked the minimum system requirements?

Made sure the version you plan on going to does what you want?

Checked your current internal and external hardware to make sure they have
fully functional Windows Vista Drivers?
(I'd give you links - but this depends highly on your system and
components - just go to the manufacturer's web page, look up your model for
each part and see if they have Windows Vista support and software drivers
for said component. Video card, sound card, motherboard chipset, network
card, video capture card, scanner, printer, etc...)
