Unvalidated XP Pro

I just found out someone had installed XP Pro on my systems and it is not
able to be validated. I am wondering what my options are. I have seen where I
can go to the Microsoft site and purchase registration keys. I was wondering
if I could also go out and purchase the XP Pro upgrade disks, and if that
would work. I am on a limited budget, I am now a full time student after
losing my job of 13 years. I know I can get the uprade version through my
school for a little cheaper then I can get the reg keys directly from
Microsoft. Just wasn't sure if the upgrade version would be able to work to
get me a validated copies of XP Pro.

Thank you

Usually the deal for students with schools only allow the student in
question (1) license of the product. You used "plural" examples every time.
You could likely replace one of your bum licenses that way.

Otherwise - you could (cheapest route) purchase OEM licenses from various
dealers (NewEgg, buy.com, etc.) You would have to perform CLEAN
installations on said machines.

I have 2 computers that seem to have the un-validated software. So I am
wanting to get both taken care of. Only one needs to be done now so I can use
for school. But technically could I only purchase the upgrade version and it
would allow me to convert to a registered version?

No, you have to clean install, so unless you have an earlier version o/s
disk your out of luck and will require the full version.
MS I believe had a facility where they would supply at a discount if you
purchased from a supplier, you had to be in a position to prove purchase
etc, whether they still do??????

So my best option, would be just to register it through the website and not
go thru loading in an old O/S version and then doing the upgrade.
