Unusual problem with Windows Update

Rod Farmer

I am running Windows XP Pro plus SP1 and quite recently I am experiencing
the following problem with Widows Update:
When I go to the update site it scans my system and reports a number of
critical and recommended updates. I download and install these - it reports
that the installation was successful plus the occasional failure. I reboot
and re-visit the update site again and the original list of updates is
presented as if I had not installed them. I can repeat the above, but it
always continues to show me the full list. Can anybody suggest a fix for
this problem.
Thanks in advance.

Well-known problem answered many times. Use Microsoft's Knowledge Base or
Google to find the answer.
