If you didn't save it there's nothing to recover.

What is Desperate! has "Allow Fast Saves" selected in the Options dialog box,
Save tab (Word 2003)? Is there still nothing to recover?

If the file was never saved at least once NONE of the Save Options mean
anything... and none of them automatically save your work for you, either.

Good to know... thanks!

I know it is no comfort, Desperate, but in my computer lab I have a big
coloured sign that says (in lovely WordArt):

There are two kinds of people who use computers:
Those who have lost important data files, and
Those who will lose important data files.

The big point is - learn from it, and never, ever make the same mistake
again.

I tell my students, when they commence a document or file - regardless of
the software - to immediately save it with the required filename. Then,
every paragraph, item, object or whatever the document comprises, to just
hit the "Save" button.

Get the habit: Save early - save often. And read Suzanne's link about
auto-saves.

Good luck on resurrecting or re-doing your paper.

What about the auto save option?, I had check mark the option that was
suppose to do auto save every ten minute - so we wouldnt loose
everything...just in case. Coundn't she recover from temp file?

I hate to have to suggest that you re-read the "option" you're referring to,
which is "Save Auto*Recover* Data", not "auto save". There is no auto save
option in Office . Save AutoRecover Data is fully discussed in Word Help,
but in a nutshell, it is only designed to protect a user in the event of a
critical failure while working on a document if that document has been saved
at least once during that session.

If the document was never saved no "temp" file was ever created either. And
even if the file had been saved there would be little likelihood of
recovering anything if the file was closed without incident ‹ especially if
the user responded "No" when prompted to save changes.
