unsafe attachments

When I try to open an e-mail attachement, I get the
message "OE denied access, unsafe attachement." How do I
get around this? Why do I get this message?

This newsgroup is about using the Microsoft Access relational database
application. But to answer your question - you must have recently upgraded
to Outlook Express 6. The default security settings are to not allow the
opening of potentially "unsafe" attachments. To change the security
settings, click Tools | Options then the Security tab. Uncheck the box that
says "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially
be a virus".

Assuming you are deal ACCESS attachment and is using
Outlook express. Because MS used to allow OE to execute
files/attachment automatically and this become hacker's
favorit method of deliver virus. MS had since disable
the automatic execution. I think you can still detach
the attachment in OE. If not, you need have the sender
zip it and send to you again - you will need unzip it
after you receive it. Duncan

You get this message because recent versions of Outlook and Outlook
Express are designed to "protect you against yourself" by not allowing
you to open any attachment that Microsoft thought could be executed
and do damage to your system. If you will search the Knowledge Base at
http://support.microsoft.com, you may find more information on this
subject.

You can work around this by having your correspondents use PKZIP or
compatible software to create a ZIP file of .EXE, .COM, .MDB, and
other "suspect" files. You can receive the ZIP file and then UNZIP it.
Some have been so infuriated by this new feature that they have
changed mail- and news-readers.

All that said, it was only by happenstance that you got the answer to
your question here... this newsgroup is devoted to Microsoft Access
Database software, and there are others that deal with Outlook and
Outlook Express.
