Appreciate any advice please. Here are the details of the problem.
PC working fine one day. The next day it goes through startup to the Windows
logo flashes a BSOD which is too quick to read then reboots.
Safe mode does the same thing.
Booted from WinXP Pro CD and selected repair. Entered both chkdsk and chkdsk
/r but just get a message that "The volume appears to contain one or more
unrecoverable problems".

I am being advised to reformat the hard drive but my son has a project on
the PC which is not backed up so I hope someone has an alternative I can try
first please.
Thanks in advance

Try booting from a Knoppix live CD. Have a USB memory stick or USB
external hard drive connected and turned on before you reboot. Knoppix
will enable you to save your data to the USB devices.
