Unrecognized database format <filename>.

I get the above error anytime i open the database. I cannot even
repair/compact it. However, i can open all other Access 2000 files, just not
the one particular one i need to get into. This DB is out on the network,
however, they have Access 2000 as well, but Windows 98 opposed to 2000 (not
sure if this makes a difference).

I have tried to compact and repair via a blank access DB, and the same error
comes up. I am not sure of any other approaches, only because i can not get
past the error. I am thinking that this was previously resolved by changing
the DAO to 3.6 i believe, but i can not see where to do that. The add-in
manager is blank.

Any thoughts/suggestions?

Often there is nothing better than a recent backup.

It's time to pull out your most recent backup. My experience is that when
you get this error message on a Compact, the database is toast (ie
unrecoverable). Try these resources:

If you can't get any help with the above, you *might* be able to salvage the
data (or some of it) by using a data recovery service, but they cost.

Hi Roger,

They really shouldn't let me get so bored here at my day job. Soon I'll be

dont ever run MDB across the network; it's not reliable enough.

if you care enough to build a database use SQL Server for christ sakes.

Access Data Projects will let you keep most of your existing investment
