NOTE: A repost since my original posts got lost from yesterday according

Weird.

Hello,

I have an annoyance with Windows XP Professional SP2 (all updates)
asking me to reinstall D-Link drivers every I replug D-Link AirPlus
DWL-120+ USB Adapter after unplugging. I use this USB wireless network
with other machines. I use the same exact port, and Windows must
reinstall drivers. WHY? Is there a way to skip this so I don't have to
keep reinstalling and get multiple "Wireless Network Connection" entries
in "Network Connections".

Unplugging and replugging my HP PhotoPrinter 8450 printer and USB Flash
Drives/Sticks don't do this annoying driver reinstall! Thank you in
advance. :)

Can you tell us what precisely you see when you plug in the adapter?
Are there any relevant messages in event log?
Does the adapter work well after you reinstall it?

thanks

Can you tell us what precisely you see when you plug in the adapter?

Basically, it does the "look for driver" thing so I tell it where to get
the driver in the HDD.

Are there any relevant messages in event log?

Not that I know of. I will have to check when I do it again.

Does the adapter work well after you reinstall it?

Yes.

In Windows XP's Device Manager with hidden devices listed/enabled, I get
new D-Link AirPlus DWL-120+ Wireless USB Adapter entries with numbers.
So, not just multiple "Wireless Network Connection" entries in "Network
Connections".

As a follow-up, I e-mailed D-Link's technical support and got an e-mail
reply about my issue. The technician said that it is because of XP SP2,
and SP1 doesn't have this problem:

"It is suggested that you revert to Win XP service pack 1. The adapter
would best function with XP SP1. We have received lot of queries related
to Win XP SP2 and the installation of a wireless adapters specifically.

If you wish to use the Win XP SP2, please contact Microsoft for assistance."

Also, she gave me this URL:
http://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?ln=en-us&x=5&y=3&prid=8101&gprid=37015
which I am not going to do. I prefer public newsgroups. :)

I do have the newest driver from D-Link (10/9/2003) from
http://support.dlink.com/products/XPstatus.asp?Prodid=DWL-120+&OS=winxp ...

Does that make any sense to you?

Best regards,
Phillip (aka Ant)
