Unnessesary Norton AV 2004 background apps/services + some more

Erik Andersson

I´ve installed Norton AV 2004, but when I disabled all services and
background apps that had something to do with Norton, the program
refused to start. Had to reinstall it.

I want to have an e-mail scanner in my system, but I don´t want it, or
any of it´s components to be running in the background. Which
services/background apps can be disabled without causing NAV2004 not
to run?

Notised that it is prosible to do a viruscan from the CD, how about
copying those files needed for that scan, and then just download the
lastest virus deffs. Is it posible to do that somehow?

Norton Servies:
Norton Unerase Procetion
Symantec Core LC
Symantec Eventmanager
Symantec Settings Manager

Norton Apps:
ccApp.exe
ccEvtMgr.exe
ccSetMgr.exe
Nprotect.exe

Other services I dont know?
Shell hardware detection? = selfexplaining or unnessesary?
Cryptographic service?

Other background apps I dont know:
symlcsv.exe
Isass.exe
CThelper.exe = is this really nessesary??

Then how is a "non-running" AV program ever going to real-time AV scan your
email??? Eh???

I do want an AV scanner, but not a scanner that gives me real time
protection. I want to choose which files to be scanned, or simply
start a scan on demand whenever I want.

Try F-Prot for Windows... You can do a custom install and deselect the
on-access scanner.
