Hi - This week my computer will not boot up and gives me the "unmountable boot volume" blue screen. I have tried all of those options but the blue screen still comes up. I have put my XP installation CD in but the same thing happens again and again. What am I doing wrong. The computer is not booting up from the CD nor will it accept any of the options I select (i.e. safe mode, last know working setting, start Windows normally). We have not added any new software recently....but I cannot get off of these two screens to do anything else. PLEASE HELP!! Thank you,

Have you gone into the bios and set the cdrom as the boot device before
HDD0.??

Power off
Desktop:...Open the case and reseat the hard drive IDE ribbon cable at
both ends.
Laptop:... simply remove and reinsert the hard drive.
If that fails:

Otherwise go to the website of the hard drive manufacturer and
download their hard drive diagnostics.

Do you have a hard drive overlay such as Max Blast?
Windows XP sometimes has issues with overlay software.
You may need to perform a Clean Installation without there overlay
software which is not needed anyway.

Thank you,
.I'm having the exact same problem. Have you tried
creating a Windows XP boot disk from the Microsoft site?

You have a hard drive problem. Either the drive is going bad or you have
poor connections. Check to see that data cable is secure on both ends and
that the power cable is properly connected. If you have a boot floppy, such
as a ME or 98 boot disk, try it to see if the computer will boot to DOS.
