Unknown USB Device?

My computer with XP Pro SP 2 was running fine. When I booted up today there
was a balloon proclaiming a new USB device, no driver installed.

I did not install any hardware whatsoever. In Device Manager, the USB
connections show the two hubs, properly installed, plus this "Unknown
Device".

Both of my USB printers are not working.

What is going on?

Hi,

I had the same problem, but not on XP, but on my W2K system. I deleted the
device and rebooted the comp, but it kept looking for the usb device. What
I did was re-install the chipset drivers for the motherboard and it solved
the problem. I don`t know if it will do the same for you. But it just
seems like some drivers got corrupted.

I re-booted again and now it sorted itself out. Go figure!
