I am trying to view a jpg (jpeg) and I get an error
message when trying to view it in any of my graphics
programs (ex. Photoshop, Fireworks, etc. I have tried
renaming the file to no avail

Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated

Well, if all these programs open other JPG files properly, then it sounds
like this file is corrupt or not really a JPG.
