Unknown Administrator Accounts - XP

Courtney

I have 4 strange administrator folders under:
c:\documents and settings. They are labeled
Administrator.CPQ25722184729,
Administrator.CPQ25722184729.000,
Administrator.CPQ25722184729.001,
Administrator.CPQ25722184729.002. Can anyone explain to
me why these folders are present and if my computer is
safe. These accounts do not appear in the control panel
under "User Accounts." I am concerned that somebody may
be accessing our system via spyware?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Those profile suffixes indicate that the Administrator profile has gone
bad a number of times (or been forgotten by XP) and a new profile
created. Logon to Administrator and enter %userprofile% in the Windows
Explorer address bar to find out which folder is the current profile.
The other profiles are orphaned.

Another explanation is that you have reinstalled XP over itself three or
four times. Each time, the setup creates a new Administrator profile
without deleting the old profile.
