i was trying to upgrade my computer to windows 2000 professional from
windows millenium edition but had to stop.
after a while, my computer rebooted and came up with the error message:
NTLDR missing. I managed to rectify this but i now want to revert to my
original operating system (millenium).is it possible? i did not create any
backups of my files prior to the upgrade. will i have lost all if i continue
the upgrade to w2k supposing reverting to millenium is not possible?

You are right. ME came out after W2K, and is not a recognized upgrade, but you can
use the upgrade CD to do a completely Clean Install to get your data off.
You can do a Parallel Install naming the WINNT folder something like WINNT2.
Use your W2000 to boot with. You will need to go into the BIOS and make the first
boot device CD-ROM. Do this by booting and tapping the "delete" key. After changing
the settings press F10, place the W2000 CD in tray, and reboot. Watch Post to tap a
key to boot into new install. You will need your ME CD only to verify that you own
an earlier version of Windows. You can then proceed, and install W2000, and after
you get through it, you can move your Data, and other important files to other Media
like a Jump Drive or (hopefully not) Floppies. You will want to find your .WAB file
for the address book, and use I.E. to export your Favorites to another media. Also
you can get your email folders by doing a search for .DBX files. Move all these
files including Folders.dbx to another file folder and name it something like MAIL
to reimport after the Clean Install.

After getting all the data you want, you can get ready to do a completely Clean
Install. You can Format and then reinstall ME or you can again install W2000 like
you did before above.

This seems to be a bit complicated the first time, but it just takes time.
