Hi

I have accidentally ;) uninstalled my DNS on my Windows
2000 server Active directory.

And now I would like to know how to restore all the
record's that are necesary.

I have problems with replication, dynamic actuailzations,
etc.

is there a way to do that?

Reinstall DNS. Make sure your server is pointing to itself for DNS, type
Ipconfig /registerdns and the command prompt on the domain controller. This
should do it......

in addition to the ipconfig /registerdns you will probably need to run "net
stop netlogon & net start netlogon" on the domain controller to get the
Domain Controller DNS records to be re-populated. You will need to do this
on all DC's in the domain/forest.

I've try ipcofig /registerdns with no luck.

the old config has this records on the DNS service.
-------------------------------------------------
- DNS
- server name
- forward zone
- zone name
+ _msdcs
+ _sites
+ _tcp
+ _udp
- reverse lookup zones
172.167.143.x subnet
--------------------------------------------------
but now it has this
- DNS
- server name
- forward zone
- zone name
_tcp

- reverse lookup zones
172.167.143.x subnet

youa re going to need to re-create teh _msdcs and _sites zone to get Active
Directory to behave properly once again.

you should be able just to create these zones through the DNS management
console

You should be able to open up the DNS Management Console on the DNS server,
right click on the Forward zone, select the create new zone, and create the
_msdcs.domain.com zone. You will also need to create another zone called
domain.com. Enable secure updates on these zones and run ipconfig
/registerdns && net stop netlogon && net start netlogon on all of your
domain controllers.

this should fix all of your DNS problems. I'm looking for a KB article on
how to create the DNS zones now
