Uninstall???

I am trying to uninstall IE6 with sevice patch. It
uninstalls just the patch then leaves IE6 when I try from
add/remove programs. But I want to completely uninstall
and reinstall the browser. It no longer shows in my
add/remove programs field ... how can I uninstall then
reinstall or simply reinstall??

When I try I get an error message telling me a newer
version is on my computer and I cannot install over it.

What operating system?
If XP, then you cannot uninstall IE6 as it is the base version of IE.
