$Uninstall

I read several postings about deleting $uninstall files if everything
runs smoothly.
Does this also hold if my cd drive doesn't open when I push the
button? It opens when I use explorer with eject. But this can't b the
standing procedure!

Thanks for your ideas

The $Uninstall* folders with Qnumbers attached are the backup files for
installed updates. If you should decide to uninstall an update via
Add/Remove Programs, these older versioned files would be needed. If the
updates are causing no problems after x amount of time, you can safely
remove the $Uninstall* folders.

For the eject on the drive... Some of the cd burning programs are very
persistent about managing the drive tray. Unless there is a change to
the program in an update (or a user preference buried in the program's
menus), you're usually stuck using the using the Eject menu option vs.
the eject button on the drive.

If the cd burning program allows it, you could disable it from running
at startup. That should return control back to you and the eject button
on the drive should be operable again. Start the program with its
shortcut when you need it, realizing that when you do this the software
Eject menu is going to take over again.

Not all cd burning programs take kindly to being disabled at startup so
you'll need to experiment a bit to find what works best for your system.
