UNinstall NetBEUI protocol/service

O

ofn01

I followed this article to *install* netbeui on my winXP pro SP2 machine:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;301041&sd=tech

However I now want to *uninstall* it,
I have taken the sys file, and inf and pnf files out of the directories
above, but in my event log there is a log entry to say the following - how
do I stop this service trying to start???

"The NetBEUI Protocol service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified. "

I have tried to find a NetBEUI service in the service manager but I just
can't find it???

Place the sys file and the inf file back, and try this:

Open Network Connections folder
Right-click the LAN connection and choose Properties
Select NetBeui from the list and then click Uninstall.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply!
I did actually do that first - but none-the-less my ntbootlog.txt showed
that nbf.sys was being loaded.
I have now edited the registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\Nbf which I found searching
the registry and changed the 'Start' value from 2 to 4 which seemed to work.

I can now remove the inf and sys files and not get the error in my event
log (and with the reg key change and the files still there the nbf.sys file
was not loaded)

Hopefully this is ok to do...

You're correct ofn01. Same happened here and I removed the NetBeui driver entry from here:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\Nbf]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Services\Nbf]

Thanks for the feedback!
