Uninstall .net framework 1.1 before installing 2.0?

Is MS .net framework 2.0 backwards compatible? Are there any programs
which will only work with .net framework 1.1?

In summary, should I uninstall .net framework 1.1 and any applicable
hotfixes before I install ver. 2?

No, you should not uninstall .Net 1.1. It is completely separate from
..Net 2.0. Some programs require .Net 1.1 and others require .Net 2.0.
One has nothing to do with the other.

Leave 1.1 installed. I think they are all separate.

You can have both installed simultaneously - and AFAIK there are many
programs that will require 1.1.

NO! You "should" have .Net 1.0, 1.1 and 2.0. Applications "seem" to
be able to call up the "different" versions.

Yes.

No. Leave version 1.1 and its update installed.

After you install version 2.0, go back to Windows Update. I
have two security updates for version 2.0 listed in Add or
Remove Programs.

Good luck

For most apps written for .NET Framework, the latest
version is backwards compatible with apps written for
earlier versions unless the programmer specified an earlier
version of .NET Framework explicitly in his run module.

And where can I get .NET 1.0 now? I uninstalled it when I installed
1.1

If nothing on your system is complaining about the lack, then you don't
need it. It's possible but unlikely that some future application will
require 1.0, but in that it should come bundled together. I removed 1.1
from my system when I installed 2.0 because the only .NET application I
have on my system (I avoid them whenever possible) "upgraded" from 1.1 to
2.0 when it came out with a new version.

Dear Gary & friends:

The only part of the system who complains is the Windows Update
Facility, who always downloads an update for .NET 1.0, and cannot
install it.
