unhiding files isnt working

hi
i don't have the option of "showing hidden files" in my folder options. it
simply isnt in the list of checkboxes anywhere. so, how can i possibly get
access to my hidden files again? using "search" doesnt work either; it is
also not displaying them...

Any chances you installed and "played" with TweakUI on the machine? Any
possibilities they were disabled by Group Policy Objects?
