Unformating

I made several errors while trying to back up my data. I formated my back up
disk and then noted that I had lost the original stuff too. How can I
"unformat" a disk?
 
There is no such thing as "unformatting" a disk...

You can't 'unformat' a disk in XP.

Sorry, when you format a disk as far as I am aware there are none of the
personal files, prefrences or programs kept on the harddisk.
